The Classes at CNS:

Ever since 1965, Community Nursery School has offered a quality program for parents wishing to send their preschool children to nursery school.  The Community Nursery School is located within the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church and offers classes for 2, 3 & 4 year old children. Our classrooms are designed and furnished especially for young children. There are low tables, chairs, bookcases, a washing sink, and an adjoining bathroom in each room. A fenced, child-safe playground is found behind the church building. Weather permitting, the children spend the last twenty minutes of each day on the playground.

Children must have their birthdays prior to December 1st to be eligible for the corresponding class (i.e. a child must be 3 before December 1st to enroll in a class for three year olds). Two year old children attend class accompanied by parent or other caregiver. Three and four year old children attend class on their own and must have independent toileting skills.

Our two and three day program classrooms accommodate 12 children with one Teacher and one Assistant offering a comfortable and supportive 6:1 child: teacher ratio. Our five day program classroom accommodates 14 children, with one teacher and one assistant, offering a comfortable and supportive 7:1 child: teacher ratio.

The classes at CNS are carefully designed and organized to provide your child with the very best possible environment for his or her developmental, physical and emotional growth. The progression of needs, from 2 years old through 4 or 5 years old, is thoroughly considered. Below are detailed descriptions of our classes and what your child will gain from being a part of them.
